Vacancy: Medical Technologist
Cerba Lancet Eswatini is an ultramodern laboratory that was established in 2004. Cerba Lancet Eswatini is the largest private laboratory service in Swaziland and has its head office in Mbabane, the capital and largest city in Eswatini. We have branch offices at Ezulwini and Manzini.
Cerba Lancet Eswatini counts amongst its clients, patients and their doctors, other laboratories, clinics, hospitals, corporate groups, insurance companies, and research and occupational health establishments. We directly provide a range of routine, specialized and referral services which are amongst the most extensively offered on the continent.
Direct Report: Senior Medical Technologist
General description
The Medical Technologist is expected to operate within this framework, noting that he/she must be able to operate independently within the scope of the key performance areas of this job.
Position Overview:
1. Compliance
- Comply with the Cerba Lancet company policies and procedures.
- Follow the Health, Safety and Environmental regulations. Drive the Cerba Lancet values.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements including ISO requirements, audits, finance, and accounting management requirements
2. Scope of Work
- Performs diagnostic testing procedures, reviews, and verifies results daily.
- Timeously interacts with pathologists on technical matters to provide all relevant data that may pertain to the prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of diseases.
Equipment
- Operates, maintains, and calibrates all equipment used in the laboratory to ensure that it is operating efficiently and providing accurate results in alignment to relevant SOPs.
- Ensuring quality control of each result as well as recognising and resolving problems by troubleshooting mal-functioning equipment and taking corrective action.
- Assists the Senior Tech and QA Manager with overseeing and monitoring equipment maintenance logs and total asset management.
- Ensure effective utilisation of resources, which includes optimisation of stock levels and reduction of costs at all times.
- Reports incidents, including instrument failures, problem solutions and reads documents and actions tasks on the laboratory information management system in compliance with relevant organisational policy.
- Attends training and seminars and participates in continuing professional development (CPD) activities to continuously update knowledge and skills as well as comply with professional registration.
- Performs on-site training of staff, interns, students, medical colleagues and associated health workers in laboratory techniques, processes, and systems, as assigned by Senior Tech and QA Manager and deem competent.
- Adheres to professional conduct requirements in line with organisational policy and relevant professional body ethical standards.
- Ensures the implementation of service levels and quality standards in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and service level agreements.
- Represents the organisation by applying the principles of customer care in the medical pathology field and interacts professionally and ethically with patients, clients, doctors and all stakeholders.
- Printing and follow up of outstanding laboratory reports (Incompletes)
- Ensure that patients/clients from whom a blood or other specimen (e.g. body fluids, tissue and excretion) is to be taken, are correctly identified and educated about the actual procedure and their rights, in compliance with relevant standard operating procedures.
- Draw blood and collect non-blood specimens from patients/ clients at various locations, using the correct and sterile equipment in a manner that will yield the best results. This may include the use of Point of Care (POC) biomedical instrumentation systems and rapid testing kits for pathology.
- Observe the physical condition of patients during blood taking and applies sound first aid practices to ensure the safety and comfort of patients/ clients.

- Functional knowledge of and ability to operate all equipment in the laboratory where he/she is based.

Requirements
Qualifications
- National Diploma in Biomedical Technology or Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences.
- Registration with the Eswatini Medical and Dental Council
- 2-3 Years Relevant Working Experience
- Drivers' license an added advantage
- Fluent in verbal and written English
- Excellent in MS Office skills including Excel, Outlook and Word
